Saturday wasn’t a great day outdoors. I woke up to it being much cooler and a whole lot of rain, leaving it to feel a whole lot like autumn was upon us. In fact, when I opened the back door to let Ozzy out, I was stunned to see autumn leaves on the deck! Seriously Mother Nature, WHAT THE HECK?
But, seeing these little guys out there gave me the boost I needed to start on some fall and winter crafting, starting with this Thanksgiving shadow box!
Another bonus was that the designer that I love (MY3DSVG.com), had only just come out with a brand new Thanksgiving design.
That, paired with the 5×5 unfinished shadow box frames I picked up at Michaels recently, had me headed to the craft room!
To say that I’m in love with Christina’s designs is an understatement. The very first shadow box that I created was one of her designs, and because of the care she puts into creating them, it turned out beautifully!
But first, the disaster! These designs are originally sized to 8.25″, but for the first time I wanted to try to see just how small I could cut them, so I dropped the size to 4.33″ to fit into the 5×5″ frame.
I was oh so close to achieving success…
This was my 2nd attempt. Unfortunately, I didn’t snag a pic of the first one, but trust me when I say that Sticky Mats Matter!
You can see just how close I was though. but close doesn’t always count when it comes to crafting!
This is the top layer of the design and the words need to be perfect, so it was back to the drawing board.
Because of the size of this Thanksgiving shadow box, I decided to make use of another Cricut feature – the Pen function!
The hardest part of using the pen is finding fonts that will work for your design. Not always an easy task, but I did finally achieve success!
